Hello Families!
This is a question I get all the time from families, and I can see the struggle in their faces when I begin to answer. The most simplest way I can explain this is: having a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset is being stubborn vs. being open-minded. A growth mindset is showing we can change and adapt our minds to grow and accept the changing times, and a fixed mindset is showing we are stuck in our old ways and not open to change. The worst thing we can do for our kids is show them we are not willing to try, or think outside of the box to get an answer or gain new knowledge. For example, let's say your child is learning to read and they are struggling. Do not tell them that you couldn't learn how to read when you were young, because that sets their mind up to thinking they won't be able to even if they try because they think if you couldn't, then they won't be able to. The age old, "Fake it till you make it," comes to mind in this example. Even if it was hard for you that does not mean it will be hard for them, so telling them to try, and helping them to try will have much better results than the alternative. Feel free to contact me, and I can provide many tips to helping get your children think in a growth mindset.
